Craft Corner
At the beginning of August we gave Louise 5 knitted blankets for Jessops. We now have 5 more ready for collection, with more on the needles to be finished. Well done all our knitters!
We have had a request from Heather’s daughter who works at Sheffield Crown Court for Trauma Teddies, which they give to children who have to attend court for various reasons. They are running short of these and Heather asks if we can knit them some more. So can we please finish the blankets we are doing and then do some teddies (patterns are available) please. This is a good way to use up our oddments and a very worthy cause to support.

Book Group
A three dog problem by SJ Bennett, was enjoyed by all. It was an easy read that whilst there was murder plot, there were also insights into the Royal Household and its workings. The relationships between The Queen and her Advisors was interesting as they try not to tell her everything but we all know she knows everything. I think this is the first book to score more than 6/10 from all of us.
The final score was 8/10
September - Sleepyhead by Mark Billingham

Outings
Norfolk Park Heritage Walk. This was a 3.5 mile walk with Steve to learn about this area and the Manor Castle. Starting at the Rhubarb Shed Cafe we walked up to Manor Lodge and the Turret House, sadly the whole site was closed for a wedding, so we will look to come back next year to explore this further. From here we headed to City Rd cemetery looking at the memorials for WW1 and WW2, along with the general historical interest of people who lived in the area. The walk then continued to Norfolk Heritage Park, a Victorian park with English Heritage Grade 2 Star listed landscape. It was then time to head back to the Rhubarb Shed for afternoon tea.
Rhubarb Shed Cafe. The walkers were then joined by others for afternoon tea, which proved to be a popular event which saw 21 of our members and friends sit down for a lovely afternoon tea in the upper room at the cafe.
Lodge Moor, Redmires Prisoner of War Camp walk. The last of this season’s evening walks took us round Redmires POW camp which was first established as a military training ground during WW1 to prepare troops for trench warfare. During WW2 a POW camp was established which at its peak held 11,000 prisoners mainly in Nissen huts, which to this day the concrete floors and steps are visible and also in tents on a field towards the back of the site. The walk ended in The Three Merry Lads for a quick drink before heading home before dark

2025 may seem a long time away but I am starting to look at the outings programme for next year. Starting in February, I’m looking at one weekend outing, one evening outing per month. The evening outing could be a walk, a visit to somewhere or a meal out. I’m looking for recommendations for evening outings or meals out that would be reasonable in price and local. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. If you see something you would like to do in addition to this programme, you are welcome to organise it, we can help put it on the website.
Full details of all Walks and Outings can be found on the What's On page. and let us know if you'd like to join the WhatsApp Outing Group.
