Roundup
The ladies from Ready, Steady, Flower - Denise Nelson & Karen Bailey-Smith helped our members to make some lovely floral decorations using summer flowers and foliage.
Craft Corner
Thank You to all who have made Bonding hearts for Louise at Jessops or Little hats for The Big Knit (age uk).
Our next project is twofold. We will be making hats & scarf sets, a few 'good sets’ for sale at Christmas markets, but the majority to fulfil a request from one of my family members for a refuge in Chesterfield. These sets can be either for children or adults and any weight of yarn.

Book Group
August’s book was The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford.
This was a book about a Chinese boy who lived in America and a Japanese Girl who went to an American School. The book was set in WW2 and told the story of the two friends during the incarceration of the Japanese. The book went into some history that not many of us knew about and enjoyed. It was this aspect that carried the book along .We discussed the impact the Japanese had on all communities that is even present today. Also the relationship between the characters. The ending we felt was a little short. The book scored 7/10.
Next month we will be reading The French House by Jacqueline Bloese.

Charity
To raise money for our charity Sheffield Young carers we had a table top sale on Sunday 9 July at Woodseats Festival. Thank you to all who helped prepare and run the stall. This was very successful and raised £482
The next event was Saturday 15 July Laycocks day where we had a general stall selling mainly cakes , preserves and sweets and a bottle tombola. Thanks again to all those who supported this event in any way. This event was even more successful raising £501.75 from the table sale and tombola, with £23 in The collecting SYC collecting tin. A magnificent effort by Sue Coldwell and Ann Dungworth selling raffle tickets for the Tombola and once they ran out of raffle tickets took the collection tin round.
Outing
On Thursday 17 August was the last of a series of city walks led by our guide Steve, who took us round the city centre showing and explaining to us examples of Neoclassical architecture.
As a result of these city walks we have been able to donate a total of £275 to Weston Park Hospital, by each person donating £5 for each trip they attended.
Sadly we were unable to hold our Family day picnic in Graves park due to the absolutely terrible weather!
