Roundup
Our October speaker was Mark Dawson telling us about The history of Hendersons Relish. Henry Henderson first produced his first batch of Relish in 1885, at his home on 44 Green Lane. By 1890, Henry had set up his grocers store at 35 Broad Lane. Initially, Relish was a side-line. Legend has it that it was kept in a barrel and customers had to bring their own bottles to be filled. In 1910 Henry retired and sold the business to Shaws of Huddersfield who retained the name. Production increased throughout the 20s - 60s supplying small corner shops. With the coming of supermarkets production had to change in order to supply the supermarket chains that replaced many of the local corner shops. Now Hendersins relish can be found in most supermarkets in Yorkshire, but has not really managed to gain nationwide popularity

Book Group
Our book for this month was Mrs Harris goes to Paris. It was mostly seen as an easy read which we felt we needed. The book was of its time and now seemed dated. It was a lovely story of Mrs Harris wanting her dream dress. It did not seem a plausible story and some of the characters did not feel likeable and in keeping with the story. The way Mrs Harris reacted when the dress was spoiled did not match her desire to have the dress. The book scored 5.5/10
Next Months book is: Toymakers by Robert Dinsdale
