Outings Roundup

Chesterfield Observatory Visit-Monday 18th November 7pm.

Unfortunately, this had to be cancelled due to the bad weather. The Observatory is fully booked for this year and into early next year. I will try and put another visit to the observatory in the 2025 calendar. Everyone is welcome to visit the observatory on Friday evenings for a cost of £2 per person.

Please note - we did not have to pay for this visit so I will have full refunds available for everyone who booked at December meeting. Please pick up your bag with your name on it. Some members have suggested giving their fee to the observatory as they are a charity too. I’ll leave a pot on the outings table for anyone who wants to do this. Any money left on the table at the end of the December meeting will go to the observatory charity.

Haddon Hall Christmas market Friday 29th November - a group of us paid our annual visit to Haddon Christmas market on a cold but sunny day, giving us an opportunity to view the house and gardens at a much reduced price, There were a lot more stalls than previously, but some favourite stalls were not in attendance. Beer and gin tasting was once again a popular pursuit.

Future Outings

All members, friends and prospective members are invited onto any of the outings. The outings should be booked via

  •  the website

  • or by sending Gill a WhatsApp message on 07905922905

Once you have booked an outing, if you need to cancel or change anything, please let Gill know via WhatsApp. If you get a thumbs up to your message, it means I have seen it.

When you have booked on an event via the website, you will get an email to confirm your booking. Save this email as it contains all the trip details, if you don’t receive an email, please contact Gill to confirm. Thank you.

For all outings that state “please book your own ticket”, you need to RSVP to the outing on the website as well as booking your own ticket so Gill knows you are going. This helps arrange car shares and ensure the outing can start on time.

Outings for 2025 are being put on the website as I book them. Where it states book your own ticket and RSVP on the website, it is important to do this. Some may be popular and will sell out due to limited number of places available, so keep an eye on the website. As the saying goes, if you snooze, you lose!

For the 2025 outings programme, Gill will organise

  • 1 x day outing each month from March to October

  • 1 x evening outing each month from March to November

  • 1 x meal out to a different cuisine every other month

If there are any other outings you wish to organise yourselves, Nik and Gill will help you put them on the website.

If you have any questions, please talk to Gill or WhatsApp Gill on 07905922905

For future outings see Upcoming Outings, book online or at the Outings Desk

Charity

Our next food bank collection will be at the December meeting. If possible please include a festive treat such as nice biscuits, Christmas cake, christmas pudding, chocolates. Now that the weather is getting colder and winter fuel bills will bite more, the food bank has experienced a 33% rise in those needing help throughout the winter.

Christmas Fair Fundraising

Henleigh Hall Christmas fair Saturday 16 November - we held a book stall raising £40. 82 thanks to Carolyn, Sue, Jan & Jo (from Earl Shilton WI) for manning the stall and Pat for paying us a visit.

Terminus road Millhouses Christmas Market Saturday 23 November - what an awful day weather wise! Needless to say we went ahead not quite as planned, but braved the heavy rain and strong winds. Considering the poor turnout and having to pack up early for safety reasons we raised an amazing £232.50 plus a little more from items being sold during this last week. All the craft things left over and the tombola (which wasn't even put out) will be used at Lowedges School fair in December.

Holy Trinity Christmas Fair Saturday 30 November. We held a craft stall at Holy Trinity which was well attended during the morning selling handmade items. We raised £333 in total. Any items left will be on sale at Wednesday's Christmas party.
